The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) has invited bids for a major greenfield highway project aimed at enhancing connectivity between Meghalaya and Assam and strengthening transportation infrastructure in Northeast India.
The tender pertains to Package-3 of the proposed high-speed corridor connecting Mawlyngkhung near Shillong in Meghalaya with Panchgram near Silchar in Assam. The project involves the development of a four-lane access-controlled highway with paved shoulders, designed to improve travel efficiency and accommodate future traffic growth.
The project will be implemented under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) and carries an estimated development cost of ₹5,003.67 crore. The selected concessionaire will be responsible for the design, construction, operation, maintenance and management of the corridor, with a construction period of 36 months stipulated under the contract.
Once completed, the greenfield corridor is expected to significantly reduce travel time between key destinations in Meghalaya and Assam, improve freight movement and strengthen regional connectivity. The project is also expected to support economic development by facilitating smoother transportation of goods and enhancing access to commercial and industrial centers across the Northeast.
The corridor forms part of broader efforts to modernize road infrastructure in the region and improve integration with national transportation networks. By providing a faster and more efficient route, the project is expected to boost trade, tourism and investment opportunities while improving overall mobility for residents and businesses.
Interested bidders have been invited to submit their proposals, with the deadline for bid submission set for August 3, 2026.
